Goal Lock — your goals now guard your apps

What if you DO get what you want?

Set one real goal — what, by when, why, what it would mean. Goal Lock stands it full-screen in front of Instagram, TikTok, whatever steals your hours. Turn back, or trade your goal for the scroll. Consciously.

● Submitted to Apple, in review now. Join the list and we'll email you the App Store link the hour it clears — no earlier promises than that.

In a six-week study of 280 people (PNAS, 2023), a friction gate like this one cut how often people even tried to open distracting apps by 37%.

How it works

Three steps. Then the lock finds you.

01

Set the goal

One goal, four answers: what exactly, by when, why — really — and what getting it would mean. Three goals maximum. If everything matters, nothing is locked.

02

Arm the lock

One 2-minute Shortcuts setup, once. You build the automation yourself — we walk you through every tap, then you test the first catch.

03

Face it at every open

Open the app that steals your hours and your own words stand at the gate. Turn back — or hold three full seconds and trade it. Never unconsciously again.

Honest mechanics: Goal Lock uses an iOS Shortcuts automation you create — when a chosen app opens, iOS runs Goal Lock's silent check and shows the gate. No VPN, no accounts, no data leaves your phone.

For those who can't afford to live the way they used to.

Where the cost to stay is higher than the fear of change.

What if you DO get what you want?

The science

Friction works. Your own words work harder.

37%

fewer attempts to open distracting apps once a friction gate stood in the way, tracked across 280 people for six weeks.

d=0.65

effect size of implementation intentions — "when I open X, I will face my goal" — on follow-through, across 94 independent tests.

42%

more likely to achieve goals that are written down — with a deadline and a why.

The 42% figure comes from an informal research summary, not a peer-reviewed journal — we're citing it the way it was actually published, not dressing it up.

Pricing

The lock costs less than the hours it saves.

Monthly

$19.99
per month — cancel any time

Try one full cycle. Renews until you stop it.

BEST VALUE · TRIAL LENGTH SHOWN IN APP

Yearly

$49.99
per year — about $0.96 a week

Whether you get a free trial before the first charge isn't about region — it comes down to your Apple Account's subscription history. Exact length and date are shown in the purchase sheet, never here, because Apple's is the number that's actually binding.

Locked forever

$99.99
once — no renewal, ever

One payment. Never negotiate with yourself about the price again.

Prices shown in USD; your storefront may vary and Apple always shows the exact regional price before you pay. Subscriptions auto-renew until cancelled in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. No surprise-renewal energy — that's the point of the whole app.

FAQ

Straight answers.

Is it out yet?

Not quite — Goal Lock is submitted and sitting in Apple's App Review queue right now. No download link exists until Apple clears it, and we won't pretend otherwise with a fake countdown. Give us your email and we'll send the App Store link the hour it's approved, nothing before.

Does it actually block apps?

It gates them. Every open of a chosen app runs your Goal Lock automation and your goals take the screen. You can always unlock — by holding for three seconds while your own words watch you do it. A friction step shaped like this one is what the PNAS field study above measured.

What's the Shortcuts setup?

One automation per app in Apple's Shortcuts app: App Is Opened → run "Goal Check." About two minutes total, guided tap-by-tap, done once. iOS shows a brief Shortcuts banner when the lock fires — that's it working.

Why only three goals?

Because the gate has to be readable in two seconds, and because spreading ambition across seven goals is how nothing gets locked in. Three, maximum. Achieve one and the slot opens again.

Where does my goal data go?

Your goals, journal answers, and gate history stay on your phone — there's no account and we never see the words you write. The app does send anonymous product-usage events (which screen you're on, whether a purchase happened) to an analytics processor so we can see where onboarding breaks; it never includes your goal text, your why, or anything you typed. Full detail in the privacy policy.

How do I cancel?

Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions → Goal Lock. If your plan included a trial, iOS reminds you before it converts. Cancelling keeps access until the current period ends.
